As a physical therapist, in practice for 17 years, I have had multiple opportunities to work with a variety of patients and practitioners. I have studied many techniques and treatment philosophies and learned the advantages and pitfalls in each. It has been a privilege to witness my clients’ extraordinary achievements and physical transformations.
In this time I have also learned that commitment to detail and one-on-one care are imperative to reaching these goals. It is for this reason that I started Total Care Physical Therapy. With this practice I am able to provide true individual care without the constraints of a traditional medical setting.
My initial exposure to physical therapy began after sustaining a back injury as a college dance major. This experience helped to form my appreciation for the importance of physical therapy in the healing process and the prevention of future injury. When I knew I would be leaving the dance world for the world of medicine, I chose physical therapy because I was drawn to the personal relationships and continuum of care this aspect of medicine has to offer.
My passion for testing the human capacity for movement began early with a love of dance that blossomed into a college degree and post collegiate career. This affinity for physical challenge has continued well into adulthood with athletic endeavors that span from long distance running and cycling to pilates, yoga and golf.
Originally from suburban Philadelphia, New Orleans has been my home since 2007. I received a bachelors of science from Butler University in Arts Administration and Dance in 1996 and a Master’s in Physical Therapy from the University of Indianapolis in 2003. Since finishing physical therapy school, I have completed an orthopedic manual therapy certification from the Ola Grimsby Institute, and have been recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. I have extensive training in trigger point dry needling and the Graston technique of soft tissue mobilization. I am a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and Function Movement Screen (FMS) specialist and current member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Prior to my career in physical therapy I was a certified pilates instructor through the Physicalmind Institute in both mat and equipment techniques. I continue to be influenced by these principles and apply them to my client-care philosophy today.
I have been an avid participant in the New Orleans running community for the past 13 years. I fully understand the love of being active and the frustration of injury. Athletic performance is personal and something I believe everyone is capable of achieving. Getting the opportunity to watch my clients succeed is thoroughly enjoyable. I am ecstatic to have the opportunity to provide that service in this community.
